๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง  Post-Brexit: UK businesses selling to the EU need CE marking. UK businesses selling in the UK need UKCA marking. Both expire. Both need tracking.

๐Ÿ”„  CertNesher tracks CE and UKCA markings separately โ€” with independent alert schedules for each market. One dashboard. Both covered.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง UKCA + CE โ€” Post-Brexit Compliance

Post-Brexit, you need to track
two certificates for every product.
Most companies track neither.

Since Brexit, UK businesses selling products in the UK market require UKCA marking. Businesses selling in the EU still require CE marking. These are separate certifications, with separate expiry dates, separate bodies and separate renewal processes.

Most UK SMEs are tracking one or neither โ€” and assuming the other is still valid. It may not be.

UKCA vs CE โ€” what changed after Brexit

Two markings, two markets,
two separate expiry dates.

Before Brexit, one CE mark covered both markets. After Brexit, the UK created its own conformity marking โ€” UKCA. Now UK businesses must manage both, independently, with separate testing requirements and separate renewal cycles.

If you sell products in both the UK and EU markets โ€” you need both UKCA and CE, tracked separately. One expired certificate can block you from an entire market while the other remains valid.

When UKCA or CE marking lapses

Products without valid marking
cannot be legally placed on the market.

This isn't a fine you pay and move on. An expired UKCA or CE marking means your products cannot be sold, distributed or placed on the relevant market until the marking is reinstated. The cost is not the re-certification โ€” it's the downtime.

๐Ÿšซ

Products withdrawn from market

Without valid marking, products must be withdrawn from sale. Retailers, distributors and procurement teams will flag non-compliant products automatically.

โš–๏ธ

Trading Standards enforcement

In the UK, Trading Standards can issue enforcement notices, issue recalls and impose penalties for products placed on the market without valid UKCA marking.

๐Ÿ“ฆ

Supply chain disruption

Large retailers and industrial buyers verify conformity marking during procurement. An expired certificate removes your product from their approved product lists immediately.

FAQ

UKCA & CE tracking โ€” common questions.

Do I need both UKCA and CE marking? +
If you sell products in Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales), you need UKCA marking. If you sell in the EU or Northern Ireland, you need CE marking. If you sell in both markets, you need both โ€” and they must be maintained separately. CE marking is no longer accepted for products placed on the GB market from 2022 onwards.
Can CertNesher track UKCA and CE separately for the same product? +
Yes. You can add UKCA and CE as separate certificate records for the same product line, with different expiry dates and different responsible persons. Each gets its own alert schedule โ€” because they are genuinely separate compliance obligations.
Does the CE marking I had before Brexit still count in the UK? +
No. CE marking is no longer recognised for products placed on the GB market. UKCA marking has been mandatory for most product categories since 1 January 2022. If you are still relying on a pre-Brexit CE mark for GB sales, you need to act immediately.
How does data storage work for UK companies? +
Your data is stored on European servers under the UK adequacy decision, fully compliant with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Each company's data is completely isolated. We will never share or sell your data.
Can CertNesher track ISO alongside UKCA and CE? +
Yes. CertNesher tracks any certificate with an expiry date โ€” UKCA, CE, ISO 9001, UKAS accreditations, safety certificates and more. All in one dashboard with the same alert system.
